Taking a brand to a new city.

Recognition in one market does not mean the same experience will automatically work in a new city. Habits, daily rhythms, price expectations and ingredient access may change. Local adaptation means reading these differences without losing the brand’s identity.
Start with the core to preserve: what does the brand promise guests, and which products and behaviours make it recognisable? Then assess the menu, opening hours and operating model in the new context. Copying everything or changing everything can both be decisions made without enough thought.
Adaptation extends beyond what guests see. Supply chains, team capabilities, kitchen layout and production methods determine whether the experience can travel. A familiar working practice in one country may require different preparation elsewhere.
SCG’s approach to local adaptation considers the brand idea alongside practical operating conditions. The new location can then be planned as a coherent continuation of the same brand in its own context, rather than simply a copy of an earlier space.
